A Design Intervention for a Worthy Cause
Agape International Missions (AIM) is an organization dedicated to rescuing human trafficking survivors and offering them a safe and restorative place where they can heal. AIM, primarily based in Cambodia and Belize, works closely with local law enforcement in undisclosed locations to extract survivors from sex slavery—and bring traffickers to justice. They needed a “design intervention” to help them better express their Strategic, and Spatial Story.
Solution
Refreshing the Mission, Vision and Brand Story, and Designing a Comforting, Inviting Space Where Survivors Can Heal
PlainJoe’s team provided brand strategy and design services, during which we created a story-driven brand strategy and interior design concepts for AIM’s multiple survivor residences. Interior designs created for AIM utilize calming, relaxing, and culturally appropriate colors and materials to help survivors feel as comfortable as possible in their living and gathering spaces. Our team worked around existing materials that are common in homes in the regions, including bamboo, granite, and marble.
Transformation
Interior Design Concepts That Can Be Adapted to Multiple Locations
PlainJoe developed and delivered designs for bedrooms, living and gathering spaces, therapy rooms, outdoor lounging spaces, recreational areas for sports and gardening, and art walls for coloring murals and displaying residents’ artwork. AIM’s interior design concepts are practical and easily attainable, and can be retrofitted in any location, no matter where the organization operates. The spaces express the organization’s story. And most importantly, it expresses to those rescued from human trafficking a sense of calm, healing and a clear message that they are of infinite value.
